All goes well for the Open Document Alliance as Google joins and the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC) declares it legal for distribution across a host of Open Source software.

Eben Moglen, representing the Free Software Foundation (FSF) and the Apache Software Foundation (Apache) on behalf of the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC), examined whether there are any legal barriers to the use of the OpenDocument Format (ODF) in free and open source software arising from the standardization process.

Belgium may become the first national government to mandate the use of the Open Document Format (ODF), with a full-scale trial to begin next year.

Development of a comprehensive set of OpenDocument sample documents is underway at the Networking and Mobile Computing Laboratory at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Central Florida. Yi Luo and Majid A. Khan are working on the project under the supervision of Dr. Lotzi Boloni. Funding was provided by Intel.
