Publishing Writer Documents on the Web

Although OpenOffice.org has an HTML/XHTML export feature, it is not up to the snuff when it comes to turning Writer documents into clean HTML files. Instead, this feature turns even the simplest Writer documents into HTML gobbledygook, and while it attempts to preserve the original formatting, the results are often far from perfect. Moreover, publishing static HTML pages is so '90s: today, blogs and wikis rule the Web.

OpenDocument adopted or decisions pending in 40 nations

The OpenDocument Fellowship has just updated its page that tracks government decision to adopt OpenDocument Format. Decisions to adopt OpenDocument have been announced or are pending in at least 40 nations around the globe. The page notes that the pace of ODF adoption has accelerated to an extent that comprehensive tracking of such decisions is no longer feasible.

Upgrade publishes monograph on OpenDocument

Upgrade's VII/6 issue, which includes a monograph devoted to the OpenDocument format is now available online. Upgrade is the digital journal of CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies). The article was guest edited by Jesús Tramullas-Saz, Piedad Garrido-Picazo and Marco Fioretti.

The English version is available now and the Spanish version, which will be published in Novática, the journal of the Spanish CEPIS society ATI (Asociación de Técnicos de Informática) will be available online soon.
